Hi there, I’m Laura. For as long as I can remember, I have loved drawing pictures and telling stories. I spent my childhood drawing on everything (and I mean that literally, my parents have the stories and carpet-cleaning bills to prove it). I continued to chase my passion in college where I studied illustration and graphic design at Washington University in St. Louis, receiving my Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2001.

For the last 20 years, I have worked as a graphic designer specializing in nonprofit communications. This experience has taught me how to use words and images to advance causes near and dear to my heart. I now aspire to take the same kind of emotionally compelling messages I have been sharing for nonprofits — messages about caring for each other and the world — and turn them into picture books.

Why picture books? As the mother of two voracious young readers, I can see how they learn from books and how it impacts their worldview. I adore children’s books that are seemingly simple and lighthearted, yet in fact tackle complex, tricky issues.

I am a member of SCBWI and CBIG, and a graduate of The Children’s Book Academy. I have also studied children's book illustration at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. I live in New York with my husband, two kids and two dogs (a.k.a. models for my illustrations!).
I am currently seeking representation.
